This is a piece I did for Paste Magazine, for an article about the Japanese writer Haruki Murakami.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_miPKzunIWi8/RkrtdjbOQ2I/AAAAAAAAABw/p-dlumtZkFM/s400/murakami1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5065121822912955234" />
The article and my research about Murakami made me really curious about his work, so I got "Kafka on the shore" and I cant stop reading it.

Lazy

Its been forever since I don't post something, I have been too busy lately but here I am again!
This is a Cd cover I made for Ana Egge. I got an Email from her manager with some ideas for the image, something about her holding an Egg in her hand. The title of the Record was going to be "Lazy", So I Incorporated that idea they gave me with something that I really felt it was going to work.
At first they just wanted a cover, but after they told me it was going to be packaged as a digipak, I thought it was a great opportunity for me to create a wraparound cover. They agreed with me so I started working.
<img style="display:block; margin:4px auto 3px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_miPKzunIWi8/RjDyDC1hsPI/AAAAAAAAAAo/AGtnFkVcrdY/s400/lazy1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5057808515651973362" />
As you can see on the pencil drawing, my idea was to interpret the title "Lazy". I drew Ana hanging out with herself, relaxing at home, not doing much.
<img style="display:block; margin:4px auto 3px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_miPKzunIWi8/RjD1oS1hsSI/AAAAAAAAABA/rnMyOiHTV6o/s400/lazy4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5057812454136983842" />
Here is the complete illustration, you can click on it to see it bigger. All the open space I left was for the type.

This is a really old piece I did. I wanted to post it wile I work on some illustrations that I cant really show yet. After taking the reference shot, making the sketch, I started with the pencil drawing, I wasnt sure if this piece was really going to work, but after a wile I really got into it.

I am really happy how all the shading came out, I dont really take it that far anymore, I try to keep things a lot more simple, I propably learned that wile I was making this illustration.

I painted this with oil at first, i really thin layer, that then I slowly rub off to bring out the lights, after that is dry, I start with the layers of acrylic.

I think the final looked great! but maybe too realistic for me, I try to go a different direction now, as you can see in the other illustrations I posted.

Ragazza - Antonio Orozco

Got a call from Ragazza Magazine to illustrate an article about Antonio Orozco, a Spanish singer. The Article talked about how he recorded his last album in between Cadiz (South Spain) and California, and how that was the farthest he has taken his music. So after a couple of sketches and some ideas back and forward with the art director, this is what i came up with.

After finishing the pencil drawing, I scanned it in, and started making layers and layers of color.

And here it is! Pencil + Photoshop CS2, but hopefully next time I will have more time to actually paint it.

Promotional Postcards

 I have been quite busy the past few weeks, but I will start posting some new work soon. In the mean time, here is my first promotional postcard.
 Its being printed right now by 4by6, I just love their satin finish, the only problem is that i cant really be there when they come out of the press, so I cant really check if the colors are matching correctly.
 Cant wait to start sending them around!

Apis Mellifera

 This commission was for the cover of the first issue of "Apis Mellifera", the concept behind this magazine is to have people critic something in their field of work, for example, waiters critiquing restaurants, music store clerks critiquing albums, etc... So i combined that idea with the title of the magazine "Apis Mellifera" (Honey bee).
 Thought it would be cool to have a big bee hive and make all those workers fly out of it.

 After finishing the pencil drawing i added the wings digitally making separate layers with different opacity to simulate movement. And planed the color composition.

 After adding the rest of the layers and shading i brought back those color composition layers on top, it didn't really work until i did that.

Trapped in her own world

 This is another of those promo Cd covers I made, it´s inspired by a song that talks about a girl named Alice that is trapped in her own world trying to find herself.
 When I was done with the pencil drawing I scanned it and then used photoshop to figure out the values and the colors i would use.

 After I had all that figured out this is what I ended up with. Its acrylic on illustration board.

The All Day Dreamer´s LP

 After making all those promotional Cd covers, they contacted me to illustrate one. I had total freedom, the only requirement was that it had to reflect the themes of the songs in the album. Pretty simple requirements i thought, so i started listening to the songs and one in particular caught my attention.
 The song was called "Why Now" and talks about someone that goes away. Well, i got that idea and combined it with the album title "The All Day Dreamer´s LP".

 I went with digital coloring on this one again, and its provably my favourite piece to date.
 Can you guess what the image means?

Los Acusicas & the Orange Socks

 A weird concept on this one. Its an illustration of a Spanish Punk band. Their base player uses orange socks as a lucky charm in every concert, so my guess was that when they go on tour he has to wash them every single day, or at least I hope so.
 I started this as a pencil drawing from the reference they sent me.

 As you can see i moved them around a little for the final illustration, and colored over the pencils digitally. It turn out as a fun image of them waiting for the socks to dry, and i like how the colors turned out.

Güero

 This Illustration was made to send around record labels as a self promotion, its a personal view of the Cd cover for Güero, from Beck.
(acrylic on illustration board)

 After finishing the acrylic painting, I wanted to incorporate the type digitally, but I found it hard to decide from this two options I ended up with. Finally, I decided to go with the one on the right. Check out how it turned out on my portfolio.
 Does anyone prefer the one on the left?
